Pakistan Culture - The Grand Picture
75
How does Culture breathe through the fire and smoky haze of wars? How does Art live on against a backdrop of blood shed and misery when all else around it caves in? Why do grand monuments stand their ground when the very foundations grow shaky, towering over cities....mocking man and his foolish wars alike?
They do so because the spirit that infuses them is greater than any that sustains ordinary human form. It's ageless; the hands of time cannot contain it. In war torn countries, lofty towers and minarets lend the only sense of stability left there... their primal spirit undaunted still...enduring when everything else crumbles.
And so it is in Pakistan...a land of ancient memories, mughal heritage and rustic beauty.....standing tall in it's architectural grandeur against a dark and gloomy horizon. Despite the blood spilt on it's soil, one can still smell the land's richness, feel the warmth from it's red bricked buildings. The hardest of hearts melt at the life emanating from them; our own struggles shrink into nothingness before their majestic presence - those solitary keepers of peace.....silently looking on with their age-old wisdom, slave to neither man nor any religion.
Emperor's Mosque
It's undoubtedly, one of the finest and most awe inspiring wonders of Mughal era.....
Built with kiln bricks, it's red sand stone exterior has the most elaborate marble inlay work...mostly in floral patterns.
Lahore Fort
A Royal Balcony outside one of the halls of the Fort, whence the mughal emperor addressed his people and listened to their problems.
Also, situated within the grounds of the Fort, the Hall of Special Audience, was used for exclusive royal meetings.
Nauklaha Pavilion
Palace Of Mirrors
The famous 'Sheesh Mahal' or Palace of Mirrors was used by the King and his family for their personal use. Can you imagine living in a place as ornate as that?
A truly breathtaking sight though...!
Pearl Mosque
Sufi Shrine
I just love the turquoise mosaic....
Sikh Mausoleum
Wazir Khan Mosque
The entire Mosque is a stunning piece of Art, covered with elaborate glazed tiles and frescoes. Don't miss the detail in each tile...
Such vibrancy in ancient muslim culture! Wonder what the Taliban have to say about this...
Shalimar Gardens
Sacred Heart Church
Tower of Pakistan.... their little Eiffel Tower!
Lahore Museum
Sculpture
Rock solid....as old as time itself, these sculptures have persevered in the face of invasions and wars... Defiant. Eternal....
Each little figure in this one could stand on it's own merit.... unbelievable detail!
This is one of my favorite ones....
Lastly, these two statutes (right & below) in my eyes, represent the plight of nations caught in wars today.... humble resignation mixed with hope and longing.... embalmed in time forever.
* Disclaimer: Apart from the photographs with dates, most of the images have been taken from Google. My own camera could not do justice to these monuments.

There is such amazing detail everywhere! Thank you so much for bringing Pakistan to life!
Thank you for posting so many photos with so much background detail. They are magnificent. I think I like the Sufi one the best with its turquoise patterns -- it's so cheery, its silent message is one of delight. They are all beautiful though. I have always loved ancient architecture and ornamentation.
If you take a second to forget about the wars going on in the region, and look at the buildings, and then consider how old they are you can become entranced by their genius of architecture. I have never been to Pakistan or Afghanistan, but I have been to Iraq three different times, and have been just about everywhere in Iraq. The archtecture in Iraq, is amazing. Judging from the photos in this hub I can only believe that the architecture in Pakistan is also amazing. Awesome hub myownworld.
myownworld, WOW What a beautiful Hub, all the pictures are so magical and give such a great feeling. This is a job very well done and a up rate no doubt! Thanks for you time and effort putting all this beauty in one place. Peace :)
Gorgeous architectures & sculptures. When I visited India,I found almost similar architectural structures.I would love to visit Pakistan, specially for Harrapa and Mohenjodaro. Thanks myownworld :)
Beautiful words. Beautiful photos. Breathtaking buildings and monuments.
I have been waiting for your new hub. It is as spectacular as I hoped it would be. It is nice too, to recognise places that I have seen. I wanted to visit Hiran Minar on my last visit but there was no time. There are still many places I want to see in Pakistan.
I look forward to more hubs from you on Pakistan.
Take care and best wishes.

I am always amazed at the way you have with words. What an introduction.

The ancients took beauty and carved it into stone
Reminders that however we fashion it
Beauty needs no translation
The heart knows
The eyes see
And time is not
Thank you MOW. You rock.
I am from Pakistan! Thank you for such a wonderful hub about our cultural heritage. :D
MOW, you have yet again created a brilliant hub! Just when I was thinking that there is nothing more you can possibly write about Pakistan, you come up with another wonderfully researched piece. I simply loved your introduction ... it is so powerful and yet it seems to effortless. Thanks for giving us this little guided tour through the Mughal history and keep up the great work!
These are some jaw-dropping pics you shared with us myownworld! I enjoyed every single picture and gravitated more so to the Buddha pics overall. Absolutely incredible writing and with excellent accompanying photos. Thank you!
I love this, the pictures are amazing and capture the true essence of Pakistan. However, though the pictures are great it is your writing at the beginning that is truly incredible. The description and feeling you put into your writing is just awesome, you are easily the best writer I have come across on hubpages.
It is an incredible art ,it is more than just a pictures. You are giving Pakistan a beauty through art.I am proud to live in Asia region,Great for sharing this with us, ancient beauty from Pakistan!
"Beauty as we feel it is something indescribable;
what it is or what it means can never be said"
The pictures you present here are marvellous, being in pakistan i haven't seen such beautiful pictures...Thanks
amazing..arcitecture.. thanks for share
I really like the architecture there, it must take quite some time to do some of it seeing at how much is involved. I really liked the Shalimar Gardens picture, it would be fun to have something of that style for the yard of my home, it's relaxing looking!
Thanks For Represent My Pakistan
Nice pictures, some of those sites are ruinded by graffiti
Hy MOW, this is amazing! I really loved the way you made this hub! You are a great writer. But the pictures speak so much. There is so much beauty here in these places. I so want to go and be there and visit them all. The statues and stone work is just stunning. Boy, I want to get all poetic just looking at this! It is hard not to be impressed! Very glad I read this hub! : )
nice hub, Keepup the good work
Incredibly beautiful. Oh I wish I could be there a while. Thank you Myownworld!
Aaaaw, you make me smile here now! Heh! Thank you moi friend! : )
Awww with every passing hub I am at a loss of words when I have to comment. I was following for so long for another hub of yours and dang you write one whenI am off on a holiday. Sorry for the late comment.
This is splendid needless to say, the words are powerful and the snaps breathtaking. I wish people would realize the beauty of the country despite the negativity. T
Once again another great hub MOW! Amazing buildings and I liked how you described the riches through blood and through war, very deep.
These are some of the most beautiful edifices ever! I loved reading your work and viewing the pictures. Breathtaking. Rating it up and bookmarking it, My own world! Five stars!
absolutely breathtaking MOW. Thank you for sharing such beauty with us. Its good to know these things live on. (Im sure your pictures would have been just fine btw. the ones you took are fantastic)
MYO what else can I say besides great job !? Those pics were just outstanding ! Great work. I particularly love that one from Lahore Fort with the half moon. Did I mention that I think you rock ?
Oh man, that sounds really nice MOW. Im sure you would be just fine at it, you have an incredible knack for seeing beauty.
What a fabulous hub!! I can feel with each picture because being from India, we share the same history and culture!! We have always known about the monuments but its the first time that we saw such vibrant pictures of them!! Thanks to you for the same!!
Absolutely outstanding hub. As beautiful as the pictures are, your words in the introduction affected me most. I could feel the warmth you described radiating from the buildings!
Your observation about the spirit that infuses monuments being different from that which sustains human form also got me thinking - if monuments are a reflection of that which we collectively choose to value, then what does the existence of the countless empty, grey office towers in modern cities tell us about ourselves?
I think much of the world's future is tied up in Pakistan - I hope the values these pictures portray are strong enough to survive and guide us all.
Great work!
Almost forgot to read some of it, due to the pictures. Great cultural work. It makes me ill as a Tradesman we can't make anything last anymore, or look as beautiful. Great job.
Fascinating, as always, and I love the pics!
Hey there MOW! Just checking by and getting another look at beautiful pictures! You know I love your work!
Beautiful pictures and a wonderful hub. Look forward to more of your work.
Very nice hub, I really love the pictures of Pakistan, we have nothing like that here in the USA, I am proud to see your hub and that you are proud to be from Pakistan, I hope you are blessed everyday for the rest of your life and beyond
Never too late to say happy Mothers day to a wondeful woman and a good mom, Maita
Thank you for such an empiric reminder of how superficial and hasty our western society has become. Seeing the intricate artistry of an ancient world portrayed so vividly in your work, I marvelled at our ancestors patience, the years of artisan mastery and dedication to beauty and perfection. Truly, we have not come as far as we think, and may have fallen further than we care to perceive. We have much to re-learn. Beautiful hub.
Again a very well written article.Pictures are beautiful.Lahore has its own special place in history starting from rule of Chandragupta Maurya to mughal empire.I live on the other side of the border and lahore is not very far..
A beautiful and complex country, beautifully described! Definately one of the places I have not been that I intend to experience someday.
I think art is as old as mankind. We've come a long ways and it still lives on. Great pictures MOW!
I wanted to offically tell you that you did a great job on this one. It looks like your vacation did you well!
Sounds good...Just be careful with your new hub though, not even my cute new non-offensive account was enough to squeak a hub past the sensors. Can't wait to read it though!
Thank you for this amazing peek into the monuments of Pakistan. Quite stunning! :)
I know the Emperor Mosque,i know Shalimar's garden and i have been to the Lahore Museum but i never knew Lahore is this beautiful,i don't even have a pure picture of Pakistan except the one i carry in my mind.I enjoyed my stay here and it was fascinating reading the little but credible information you packed here.
Wish i could someday have a place,my own world where i will be able to create and construct my imaginary thoughts.
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful piece,on behalf of myself,my family and my brother/father Mickey Dee,i say more grease to your elbow.
Wonderful ! How could a young girl like you shoot such magical photos. You really deserve appreciation.
WOW, MOW how beautiful! I'm always fascinated to see pictures of cultural things from other parts of the world. If only everyone could stop fighting over our differences and just take time to embrace and enjoy the beauty that every culture has to offer; maybe we could begin to find peace. Thanks for sharing! Thumbs up!:)
MOW, I always so enjoy your work. You have such a unique way of looking at the world. And such a wonderful ability to communicate that with your readers. The photos were absolutely beautiful. As I viewed them and read some of the details you gave us, I kept hoping that the Art continues to "live on against a backdrop of blood shed and misery when all else around it caves in."
Amazing ...Amazing....I loveee PAkistan and its culture..its full of beautiful places ....Great job!!!
You are a very expressive, creative poetic writer. The pictures you chose are exquisite. I enjoyed this journey with you.
Gorgeous hub! You did a great job with this!
Outstanding Hub! I had a chance in college to visit and I didn't - I don't have many regrets but you confirmed it - I should have gone. I admire travels and look forward to reading more. Thank you for sharing a great journey.
So beautiful ...Amazing and gud work
I came across this by accident web-browsing in Karachi while Pakistan is feeling the pain of an aircrash and devastating flood, and cities are in strife. A soothing reminder of how people in this part of the world once strove to connect to the sacred and bring something soothingly celestial to our terrestrial tribulations. A salutary reminder. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing the culture of Pakistan :)
"the spirit that infuses them is greater than any that sustains ordinary human form" So true MOW. All the pics were simply amazing. India and pakistan have so much common. Wish our politicians had understood that!! keep the good work dear :-)
Hi! myownworld
so nice pictures and your exceptional comments. I saw it only now. Enjoyed tour of Lahore and other places with you, ancient and modern covering practically every era of civilization.
I also find interesting that you feel both Indian and Pakistani roots. There is not really much difference.
It reminds me of one of my friend who was born in India raised in Pakistan and now lives in Europe. Once we were walking together in Europe with some Euorpean friends just after some terror incident and some people who looked a bit rowdy asked us from where we are. I mentioned India and he also mentioned rightly at that time India. After wards he was telling me "sorry I said India" and I told him "Of course! you should have said the same, what is the use of getting with them unnecessary argument/trouble. Also you have all right to say India- after all you are born in India, even if that was not true, your parents any way would have been." He also agreed.
hey myownworld:) its nice to meet another punjabi girl:) i loved all your pictures-they made me home sick..i just left lahore and have been missing it terribly..i myself just wrote something on the history of the wazir khan baradari- a monument that usually gets overlooked because of the more publicised wazir khan mosque-http://hubpages.com/hub/Pakistans-Untapped-Treasur
do check it out- my pictures are in no way as good but i hope ive captured a little of the history of this exquisite city of ours:)
myownworld : Marvelous work! makes me feel so proud! Thank you for putting the life Pakistan needed so bad.
beautiful pictures! i feel touched!
ilove natuer
wow..amazing collection of pictures
i love th images, thanks 4 providing us knowledg
vid beauty of hitory many pakistanies r not aware of it.
gr8 work ....well done ....u made us proud
Ahh Ayesha, this, my chosen first of your work, instills wonderment of beauty and the fortitude of man throughout history... Absolutely amazing! Thank you for sharing - to see the existing glory must surely explain the balance of that which we hear of in global news. There must always be a balance and your hub helps me understand the degree to which negative education has grown as well. Through the atrocities of war, we seek to rise above, finding solace in beauty until the state of gratitude can be reached so we know why we chose to return...
Nice post please do share your pics on our facebook fan page and also visit www.pakistanadventures.com for amazing pictures of pakistan
This is generally a wonderful hub i should say,I enjoyed reading your hubs. This is truly a great read for me.

Wow! Where do I begin. So beautiful - I certainly appreciate you explaining each picture so I got to enjoy it more. I loved looking at the turquoise mosaics and a garden, like the Shalimar Garden, is a place I would love to stroll through and reflect and be inspired. So much beauty in architecture that I was never aware of.
We all need such beauty in our lives - beauty does transform - as the saying goes.
And yes, I can imagine living very happily in the palace with mirrors.
Thank for so much!
